Statement on Supreme Court’s Denial of Mail Ballots

"While we strongly disagree with the court’s bad decision, Common Cause Pennsylvania will continue to help all voters exercise their freedom to vote."
Yesterday evening, the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court denied voting rights groups’ petition to review mail ballot issue. The following is a statement from Philip Hensley-Robin, Executive Director of Common Cause Pennsylvania:
“We are deeply disappointed by the state Supreme Court’s decision not to hear our case to count all voters’ ballots, even those with a missing or incorrect date on the voter’s declaration. The inclusion of the date is irrelevant in determining the voter’s eligibility.
“The result is that thousands of voters will likely be silenced in this year’s election that could determine who wins the presidency. It is more important than ever that counties notify voters of a missing or incorrect date on their ballot envelope and provide voters an opportunity to correct that defect.
“While we strongly disagree with the court’s bad decision, Common Cause Pennsylvania will continue to help all voters exercise their freedom to vote. Any voter with questions about how to correctly vote by mail so the ballot is counted can call or text the nonpartisan hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE to be connected with experts in multiple languages.”
