Common Cause Names Philip Hensley-Robin as Executive Director in Pennsylvania

We're thrilled to welcome Philip to our team!

Common Cause Pennsylvania has named Philip Hensley-Robin as its new executive director. Hensley-Robin will lead the organization’s advocacy work on issues including voting rights, campaign finance reform, redistricting and representation, and ethics and accountability. Hensley-Robin, who will take the reins just months ahead of the pivotal 2024 presidential election, will oversee the organization’s nonpartisan election protection and poll monitoring program.

“We are thrilled to have Philip lead our work in Pennsylvania,” said Marilyn Carpinteyro, Common Cause interim co-president. “Having already been on the frontlines of key pro-democracy victories, he has what it takes to move our nonpartisan reform agenda forward at every level of government.”

Previously, Hensley-Robin served as Democracy Policy Analyst at the League of Women Voters of New Jersey. In that role, he led the statewide coalition that won critical redistricting reforms and successfully advocated for fair maps in the 2020-2021 redistricting cycle. He also led the organization’s work on voting rights, transparency, and campaign finance reform.

“I’m honored and excited to join the Common Cause Pennsylvania team, especially at this pivotal moment for our Commonwealth,” said Hensley-Robin. “I look forward to working with our members to create a Pennsylvania that works for all of us, including the Black, Latino, and disabled voters that have historically been denied equitable access to the polls.”

Hensley-Robin previously worked as Pennsylvania Deputy State Coordinator with the Campus Vote Project, leading non-partisan student voting efforts in Pennsylvania during the height of the pandemic. In 2019, Hensley won the Committee of Seventy’s Draw the Lines competition by drawing a competitive and equitable redistricting map. He later served as a judge for a national fair redistricting map competition run by DistrictBuilder. Hensley grew up in Radnor Township and now lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Claire.

He has recently been quoted in the New York Times, WHYY, and the Minnesota Star-Tribune. Follow his work at @phhensley.

Common Cause Pennsylvania continues to advocate for secure and equitable access to the vote ahead of the 2023 general election, with gratitude to advisory board chair Christina Hartman for serving as interim spokesperson.
