Common Cause Statement on Passing of Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

"Former Secretary Madeleine Albright dedicated her life to promoting democratic values at home and abroad. As the first woman to hold the title of Secretary of State, she is an inspiration to every child who dreams of one day contributing to the great experiment of representative democracy."

Statement of Common Cause President Karen Hobert Flynn

Former Secretary Madeleine Albright dedicated her life to promoting democratic values at home and abroad. She was integral to restoring and strengthening democracy in Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union. We must follow her example as the world works for peace and freedom in Ukraine and we work to protect the freedom to vote in America.

Secretary Albright’s experience as a political refugee at the age of 11 and becoming U.S. citizen informed her career as she traveled the globe touting the virtues of a strong and inclusive democracy. As the first woman to hold the title of Secretary of State, she is an inspiration to every child who dreams of one day contributing to the great experiment of representative democracy.”
