Providence Journal: These State Agencies have come out against expanding access to public records. Here’s why.

Below are Common Cause staff’s thoughts included in the article following the discussion of increased access to public records and proposed changes. 

“Both the ACLU, Common Cause of Rhode Island and the AccessRI: Freedom of Information Coalition discussed the many proposed changes to APRA. In the cost arena, it would reduce the price of photocopying documents from 15 cents to 5 cents a page, prohibit charges for denying records requests and disallow any charge for the first two hours of searching, retrieving and redacting records.”
