Petition: Let RI Vote for Same Day Registration!

Rhode Island’s 30-day voter registration deadline is the longest in the country and is a significant barrier to increased voter participation. Voting shouldn’t be this difficult – it is time that Rhode Island joins the twenty-two other states and the District of Columbia that allow voters to register and cast their ballots on the same day.

Every eligible voter in Rhode Island should be able to participate in our democracy. I am joining a growing coalition of Rhode Islanders calling for the General Assembly to put Same Day...

Sign the Petition: Fair Maps for Rhode Island

Our elections should represent the interests of voters and communities of Rhode Island rather than the interests of politicians. Rhode Island voters deserve fair and inclusive electoral maps, not ones manipulated for partisan or personal advantage.

Common Cause Rhode Island continuously prioritizes ethical, accessible, effective, and accountable government. Creating an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) would further these goals and benefit the Ocean State by allowing Rhode Island voters to actively redraw the state’s...

Tell Governor McKee: Veto the Judicial Magistrate Bill S-2226/H-7271!

This bill, passed by both chambers of the General Assembly, would grant Family Court magistrates the same privileges and responsibilities as judges, but without subjecting them to the same public judicial nominating process. Every 10 years, we update our state’s district maps to account for population changes — and to ensure that no matter where we live, all Rhode Islanders are fairly represented in our government.

But there’s a major problem with how we conduct this count. Under our current rules, a person who is in the Adult Correctional Institutions on Census Day is counted as a resident of the prison — NOT as a resident of their hometown.

I believe that communities in Rhode Island should get the representation they deserve. Please...

YES! I’ll help Common Cause Rhode Island protect voters this year!

We’re on a mission to run our biggest Election Protection program yet – going even bigger than 2020’s historic mobilization! Our volunteers will be working in their communities – helping their neighbors vote in the primaries, throughout early voting, or even in-person on Election Day. But we can’t do it without your support. Contributions to Common Cause Education Fund are tax deductible — our tax identification number is 31-1705370.
