Meet Alyssa…

Alyssa joined the national team as the Youth Programs Manager in July 2019.

She joined Common Cause Северная Каролина in May of 2015, working with students at Fayetteville State, NC Central, St. Augustine’s and Shaw universities.

She earned her Bachelor’s of Art degrees in Women Studies and Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received a certificate in Not-for-Profit Management from Salem College and a Master’s of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University.

Alyssa has worked with such organizations as Breakthrough Atlanta, Shodor Education Foundation, Lillian’s List, Planned Parenthood of Central NC, and The LGBT Center of Raleigh.

With just over 3% participation, Newark’s school board elections could use an infusion of fresh, young energy. Give these students the chance to be heard, and you might be surprised by how much they can do.

We encourage the Newark City Council to favorably pass their ordinance to lower the voting age for school board elections, and we can’t wait to see what these students accomplish when they’re given the chance.
