Trump Administration Accountability

Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly tried to undermine our democracy's core values and attack our rights. During his presidency, Common Cause took bold action to hold the Trump government accountable.

Donald Trump has engaged in shameless wrongdoing—from abusing his power and obstructing justice to interfering in our elections and inciting the deadly January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

At every turn, Common Cause has pushed for Trump Administration accountability, including supporting his two impeachments. These efforts are about making clear that nobody, including current and former presidents, is above the law.

Tell Congress: No One Is Above the Law

The Supreme Court’s dangerous presidential immunity ruling goes against accountability, the rule of law, and our Constitution.

Congress must pass Rep. Morelle’s constitutional amendment to permanently declare that no American is above the law – not even former presidents – and prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves.

Tell Congress: REJECT Trump and Johnson’s dirty tricks

Congress must REJECT Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson’s lies about noncitizen voting. These xenophobic scare tactics hurt all of us and make it harder for all eligible voters to cast a ballot.

Our leaders should instead pass pro-voter reforms like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to encourage voters and increase participation in our elections.

Delayed & Dangerous SCOTUS Ruling Allows Trump to Avoid January 6th Trial Until After the Election

Today, in a ruling that likely comes too late to hold a trial prior to the election, the U.S. Supreme Court in Trump v. United States found that presidents are immune from prosecution for actions within their conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority.
