Common Cause Statement on President Trump’s DOJ Speech
Вашингтон, округ Колумбия — Common Cause President & CEO Virginia Kase Solomón issued the following statement on President Trump’s speech calling for investigations into Norman Eisen, prominent nonprofits filing lawsuits against him, and news organizations at the Department of Justice today:
“Persecuting critics and dissenters are moves straight out of the authoritarian playbook. Norman Eisen is a national leader for transparency and ethics in government, championing democracy at home and abroad.
“Holding a convicted felon accountable to the law for his crimes is an act of patriotism. Free speech is not free if the President of the United States uses his bully pulpit to intimidate those who disagree with him or hold him accountable.
“Threatening advocates and charitable organizations like Norman and CREW for upholding the rule of law is fitting for a mob boss — not the president of the free world.”
