The Hill (Op-Ed): Internet voting remains a risky method of casting election ballots
Unfortunately, online voting is not yet a secure method of casting a ballot. The risks are many. Malware on a voter’s personal device could alter a voter’s selections or replace ballot images with fakes. Experts have noted that “Consumer-grade devices with consumer-grade protections are no match for a motivated attacker, particularly if the attacker is a nation-state.” Targeted denial of service attacks could disenfranchise thousands of voters and alter election outcomes. Voter authentication credentials could be stolen. The list goes on.

Washington Post: Noncitizen voting campaigns elicit different results in liberal Md. suburbs
“We view municipalities as these laboratories of democracy. They’re able to implement a lot of the reforms that we’re working on at a state level,” said Joanne Antoine, executive director of grass-roots voter-advocacy group Common Cause Maryland. “The more that municipalities pass these reforms, show that young people are capable of voting, the more we can push them elsewhere. … My hope is that we’ll come back to these things again,” she said.

Cleveland.com/The Plain Dealer:‘Dozens’ of Ohio State University students say they never got their mail ballots, voting advocates say
Voting-rights advocates said Tuesday that they’ve heard from students, including “dozens” at Ohio State University, who have said they never got the mail ballot they requested for today’s election. Mia Lewis, associate director of Common Cause Ohio, said they’ve encountered these students as they’ve showed up at polling places this morning on OSU’s campus to try to vote. Lewis said that other than in college towns, state data doesn’t show an unusually high number of outstanding absentee ballots overall. Voting-rights advocates weren’t certain about the reason for the ballot problems for students, but thought it could have something to do with university mail systems that serve as a “middle man” between students and the post office.

Common Cause Georgia Calls on Legislature to Pass Compliant Voting Maps
ATLANTA — A three-judge panel for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia issued a stay in Common Cause v. Raffensperger, the federal court challenge of Georgia’s 2021 congressional voting map. The trial set to begin on November 13, 2023 has been postponed in light of the state defendants’ decision to not seek a stay pending appeal of a separate challenge to the maps that resulted in a court ruling that found that map in violation of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). That ruling ordered the Georgia Legislature to draw new Congressional and state legislative voting maps by December 8, 2023. The Georgia General Assembly will convene in a special session beginning November 29, 2023 to consider new voting maps.

Associated Press: California governor vetoes bill requiring independent panels to draw local voting districts
“We’re frustrated, confused and deeply disappointed,” Jonathan Mehta Stein, executive director of voting rights group California Common Cause, said Monday. He added: “We were hopeful that this was an opportunity for California to show the rest of the nation what it looks like to put gerrymandering behind us.” Had Newsom signed the measure, California could have become the first state to mandate redistricting commissions for local jurisdictions over certain sizes, said Dan Vicuna, national director of redistricting and representation for Common Cause.
