Leadership Transition at Common Cause

The National Governing Board of Common Cause announced today the appointment of Vice President of Programs and Strategy Marilyn Carpinteyro and Vice President of People, Equity, and Inclusion Jordan Davis as interim co-presidents, effective immediately.

Washington, DC—The National Governing Board of Common Cause announced today the appointment of Vice President of Programs and Strategy Marilyn Carpinteyro and Vice President of People, Equity, and Inclusion Jordan Davis as interim co-presidents, effective immediately. The decision comes after the passing of Common Cause’s ninth president, Karen Hobert Flynn earlier this month.

“We are fortunate to have two exceptionally talented leaders in Marilyn and Jordan, who each bring a wealth of experience to carry our democracy work forward,” said Common Cause board chair Martha Tierney. “Together, they bring nearly four decades of management experience and more than a decade at Common Cause. As women of color, Marilyn and Jordan know firsthand the necessity of securing an inclusive, equitable, and accountable democracy for all.”

Marilyn brings 12 years of experience with Common Cause. Having served in several roles, she has working knowledge of and experience in every corner of the organization, from policy and advocacy, to fundraising, to state operations, including overseeing the organization’s massive election protection program. She has served as Vice President of Programs and Strategy since 2019.

Jordan joined Common Cause in 2022, becoming the organization’s first to lead the People, Equity, and Inclusion work as Vice President. Since her arrival, she has leveraged her years of organizational building experience to ensure Common Cause prioritizes equity in its national and 25 state offices. Prior to joining Common Cause, Jordan served as Senior Director of Talent Strategy and Leadership Development at the KIPP Foundation, a national network of charter schools.

In the coming weeks, the National Governing Board will conduct a national search to find Common Cause’s next permanent leader.
