Virginians Nominating Candidates for Governor Today

Virginians are heading to the polls today to nominate candidates for governor in a contest that is likely to be seen nationally as a referendum on President Trump’s leadership

Virginians are heading to the polls today to nominate candidates for governor in a contest that is likely to be seen nationally as a referendum on President Trump’s leadership.

Voting began at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 tonight. Early reports indicate a light turnout.

Virginia law requires voters to produce a government-issued photo ID before casting their ballots. Free assistance for voters who encounter problems at the polls is available on the Election Protection Hotline, 1-866-OURVOTE

Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam and former  U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello are seeking the Democratic nomination. Former Republican National Chairman Ed Gillespie, state Sen. Frank Wagner, and Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, are competing for the GOP nod. Because Virginia does not register voters  by party, each voter can request a ballot for the party of his/her choice.
