Common Cause to host eight-state Election Day call on voting problems and issues


WASHINGTON, DC – Common Cause will host a telephone press conference featuring eight Common Cause state organizations involved in on-the-ground efforts to protect the vote. These state chapters will report on Election Day problems and issues voters are experiencing. Common Cause is part of the Election Protection Coalition and helping to run a voter help line, 1-866-OUR-VOTE, and poll monitoring operations in a number of states.

Tele-Press Conference Details

What: Common Cause state organizations reporting on voting situations in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Who: Speakers will include Common Cause President Bob Edgar, Common Cause Election Reform Campaign Director Susannah Goodman and the following executive directors from Common Cause state offices: Kathay Feng (California), Jenny Flanagan (Colorado), Pam Wilmot (Massachusetts), Mike Dean (Minnesota), Steve Allen (New Mexico), Susan Lerner (New York), Bob Phillips (North Carolina) and Barry Kauffman (Pennsylvania).

During the mid-term elections, Common Cause state chapters are running voter education campaigns in eight states, promoting the voter helpline nationwide and in some cases working to stop confusion and voter intimidation efforts created by anti-fraud groups. In each of the eight states California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania Common Cause is running a combination of voter engagement, voter registration, voter education, and poll monitoring efforts.
