State of the Union – Response of Common Cause

"All Americans should come together now to support the fight for democracy abroad and renew our commitment to a democracy that strengthens the people’s voice at home."

Tonight, President Biden called on Congress to pass the John R. Lewis Freedom to Vote Act, saying “the most fundamental right in America is the right to vote – and have it counted. And it’s under assault.”

The following is a reaction from Karen Hobert Flynn, Common Cause president.

“All Americans should come together now to support the fight for democracy abroad and renew our commitment to a democracy that strengthens the people’s voice at home. No matter where you live or what your circumstances are, from Kyiv to Kansas City, and all around the world, every individual wants to have a say in the future for their family and community.  At home we must secure the vote for all Americans, reduce money’s influence in our politics, and ensure fairness with nonpartisan election officials and laws so the government works for all of us, not just a wealthy few.
