In 2020, Louis DeJoy—a GOP mega-donor with no previous USPS experience—took over the Postal Service under former President Trump. Since then, he has repeatedly made headlines for his efforts to bring the agency to a grinding halt.

Dejoy’s biggest target cuts right at the heart of our democracy: vote-by-mail.

DeJoy wants to implement a 10-year plan to slow down mail delivery, cut thousands of jobs, and close down facilities that process mail-in ballots. This scheme to gut the USPS has drawn bipartisan criticism from several members of Congress—and for good reason.

There is some good news: after a wave of public pressure, including from Common Cause members, DeJoy backed down and agreed to put a pause on this plan until after the 2024 elections. But as long as Trump’s Postmaster General is in charge of the USPS, the ability to vote by mail remains in jeopardy.

Enough is enough. Only the USPS Board of Governors can fire DeJoy—and members must do so immediately. The millions of people who rely on the Postal Service every day are counting on it.
