North Carolina lawmakers had a golden opportunity this month to adopt fair, nonpartisan standards for drawing new legislative voting districts. Instead, they opted for politics as usual, keeping partisanship at the core of a deeply flawed redistricting process.

Today, Common Cause announced that Sara Henderson has been named Executive Director of Common Cause Georgia where she has worked as Policy Director since January. Sara brings years of political and grassroots experience to the position and has lived in Georgia for more than three decades.

Ohio has the opportunity to lead the way again and improve democracy by mandating partisan fairness in the drawing of congressional districts.
Only 11 states explicitly prohibit partisan gerrymandering or have some protection against drawing districts for political advantage.

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who joined forces with Common Cause and other organizations to put the clamps on partisan gerrymandering in his home state, will be the headline speaker at a Capitol Hill luncheon on redistricting reform today.

Scores of people came out Sunday for a unique protest against gerrymandering in Maryland. The event, the “Gerrymander Meander 2,” visited four different restaurants in four congressional districts - all inside Baltimore County.

Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians were robbed of their ability to elect the candidates of their choice through this blatant partisan gerrymander by the legislature.
